Our Liberation Notes – Summer ‘26

The Malaysian Carnation Press accepts unsolicited submissions from the period of 20th January 2026-20th April 2026. Our inaugural issue will be themed with the title Our Liberation Notes.

We intend Our Liberation Notes to be an exploration of what it means to feel liberated and emancipated in contemporary Malaysian society. We are especially interested in highlighting underrepresented voices and taking a look at the identity and experiences of individuals across various societal lines, including class, gender, sexuality, race, and disability. We ask for your stories, reflections, observations, passions and aspirations.

We are unable to compensate artists for their work at this time, but are grateful for their consideration and trust in allowing us to read it. All contributors appearing in print are entitled to a single copy of the issue they appear in free of charge.

Submission Guidelines

Eligible Works

  • We accept works of fiction, flash, creative nonfiction, poetry, and visual art.
  • Submissions are open to individuals who are either Malaysian or residing in Malaysia at time of submission.
  • We accept previously published work provided we can credit the original publication. Simultaneous submissions are welcomed and encouraged, but we ask that you inform us as soon as possible if your work has been accepted elsewhere.
  • At time of writing, we are only able to edit works in the English language, however we are open to works of translation provided we are given proof of the original author’s consent for the work to be translated as well as a translator’s note.
  • We want work by humans, for humans. We will not consider work that is generated with artificial intelligence.

Finally, we ask that contributors read our mission statement for an understanding of the values we aim to foster. The Malaysian Carnation Press is a left-wing, anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist literary publication. As such, we adhere to the aforementioned values as well as progressivism and intersectionality. We are of the belief that arts and culture can be a means for radical change. We support abolitionism and armed resistance.
